moved to Paradise Valley, Arizona in 1982. "This
is a story we humans have not really quite understood yet,"
Rotraut explains. "Sometimes we are far from it ... I mean
this directing things where you want them to go. Through this experience
of timelessness you receive the emotions and energies that Yves
Klein described as matiere premiere. You enter into
this matiere premiere', and it gives you back the essence
of matter, and it also speaks through you and into you, simply out
of the need to express it, or, in my own case, to bring it out in
the form of wood sculptures... The sculpture is made of wood, and
at first it looks completely inert, but the moment comes when the
figure emerges, a moment whose particular energy configuration is
contained in timelessness... This emergence always remains, like
a diagram, it is iust there, in the line, as if a ghost, a phantom
were present and tangible..." |
